Job Description: Communications Associate

 

Rate Range: $20 - $22 per hour

Exempt/Non-exempt: Non-exempt

Full-Time / Part-Time / Seasonal: Part-Time

 Schedule: Weekdays, some Weekends/ Evenings * Work hours generally between 8:00am – 5:00pm

Minimum Hours: 30 Department: Fund Development Supervisor Title: Deputy Director

Job Summary: Under the supervision of the Director of Strategic Development and the Membership Coordinator, the Communications Associate is responsible for the timely and accurate delivery of communications and marketing calendar items, which includes timely, accurate, and engaging promotional content through email, website, social media and print communications to members, partners, and the community. The Communications Associate also supports Membership communication and data entry needs, and other Departments when assigned.

Job Duties: Duties may include but are not limited to:

 

Communications (15-25 hours/week)

• Implements communications/marketing calendar and ensures all social media, and print and email campaigns are drafted, reviewed, and delivered in a timely manner

• Develop and execute social media strategy aligned with organizational goals, campaigns, and seasonal priorities.

• Leads website content and digital correspondence

• Leads social media content for Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Tik Tok and other social media platforms

• Reviews and oversees volunteer social media contributions

• Responsible for search engine optimizations and current domains

• Create emails, website updates, flyers, and social media posts to promote programs, people, animals, partnerships, products, services, and seasonal natural wonders visitors may encounter • Maintains current contact lists in email marketing software and forwards members and donor unsubscribes to Fund Development team

• Creates and sends surveys as requested and analyzes and reports on results

• Creates the Annual Report as directed by the Fund Development team

• Creates annual education programs brochure as directed by the Programs team

• Creates special event programs and signage

• Attends publications and communications working group meetings

• Supports publications committee (The Acorn Magazine) as needed

• Assists with digital photo collection management

 

Membership (5-15 hours/week)

• Assists with data entry in membership database

• Assists with membership renewal print and email campaigns

• Sends member acknowledgement letters and parking passes

 

Miscellaneous

• Assists with special projects, such as software recommendations and conversions  

• Other duties as assigned 

Job Skills/Experience & Education/Certification:

• Completion of a bachelor’s degree in art, Marketing, Communications or other business-related field, or a bachelor’s degree in science from an accredited college or university in an applicable field and experience working in a fundraising position for a nonprofit organization, OR two+ years of experience in a full-time communications or fundraising position for nonprofit organization

• Social media management and engagement experience, including with Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Tik Tok

• Experience using email management software, such as Constant Contact and Mail Chimp

• Experience in Meta Business suite and other social media management software.

• Experience managing web content, including websites and social media campaigns.

• Strong background in administrative procedures and use of Microsoft 365 and Google Business applications

• Demonstrated experience using design software such as Adobe Creative Cloud apps or Canva

• Experienced in data entry, record-keeping and document retention

• Excellent verbal and written communication

• Experience working with the public, volunteers, and staff in a pleasant and effective manner

• Present a neat and professional appearance  

• Appreciation and connection to the outdoor world is preferred

• Training, work experience or education in a nonprofit and/or science-related field is helpful 

Job Requirements:

• Completion of a Live Scan Background Screening

• Possession of a valid California Driver’s License and access to reliable transportation

• Ability to stand and sit for hours at a time

• Environment: On-site work is primarily performed in close proximity to wildlife and resident animals. Some event work may be in an outdoor environment with adverse weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, rain) etc.

Physical: The primary and essential functions of require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office and outdoor setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.

• Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents; and to operate assigned equipment.  

• Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
